DCC-project

In the BA-DCC project (BACHELOR in DUTCH LANGUAGE, LITERATURE AND CULTURE IN A CENTRAL EUROPEAN CONTEXT) an innovative and interdisciplinary Joint Curriculum for a Bachelor's degree was developed. The aim of this curriculum is to place the Dutch language in a broader context, i.e. in the context of the project partners.

DCC-project partners

The participating universities (Vienna, Brno, Olomouc, ELTE Budapest, Debrecen, Wroclaw, Bratislava) work together in a project group of experienced, dynamic and rapidly growing centres for the study of the Dutch language and culture in Central Europe. The group has a pool of key expertise:

Curriculum development, translation science, history of civilisation, imagology, relations between Eastern and Western Europe, technical and economic language, terminology, European literature and literary history in a European context.

The partner universities are aware of the importance of the European dimension in university education. It was therefore essential for them to develop and implement a clearly structured, innovative and international Joint Curriculum for a less widely used European language.

The target group

The target group are students of the participating Dutch departments. DCC has a lot to offer because the project presents a lot of opportunities to the students on the labour market and makes their multilingualism grow. Furthermore, the cultural identity of the participating countries and the position of the study of the Dutch language and culture in Central Europe will be strengthened. The DCC alumni will have access to master's studies in the Low Countries in the region.

A partnership with a history

The project partners have worked together for many years, including in the development of curricula and teaching materials (business Dutch, regional and cultural studies, literature after 1945), in CEEPUS (Central European Exchange Programme for University Studies) and Comenius (Association of Teachers and Students of Dutch in Central Europe). The BA-DCC project is based on this cooperation in Central Europe and takes account of and benefits from the various areas of expertise and centres of gravity in the Dutch-speaking part of the region.

Phase 1 of DCC: The first phase took place in 2006-2012. (First cooperation contract)

Phase 2 of DCC: The second phase took place in 2012-2017. (Second cooperation contract)

The European dimension

A European dimension is achieved through the comparative perspective (East-West), the use of ECTS credits and the Diploma Supplement. DCC complies with the European Policy Statement of the University of Vienna and of the partners participating in this project.
